While living in the UK, I was delighted to discover the lager shandy. This is a combination of lemonade (British lemonade is like sprite only not as sweet) and lager (beer). I've always liked beer well enough, but really enjoy a shandy more. Recently I discovered Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat lager. It makes a very nice shandy. If you'd like to try it for yourself, you can ask a bartender to make you one, though they almost always make a face. To try it at home, combine a 8 ounce can of Sprite with a 12 ounce bottle of beer. (Besides the Cherry Wheat, Harp, made by Guiness works nicely, too.) Sprite first, then the beer. It will be a little bit sweeter than a British shandy, but very nice. Enjoy!

I always wanted to try a shandy, but I've never been to UK. What a great way to give it a shot. THANKS.
Glad to help, Scott. :-) (You've now been witness to the sum total of my bartending knowledge.)
Where did you hear about a shandy?
Well, a British friend and I were discussing which drinks are "girl drinks" and which are "man drinks" - as we classified, he brought up shandy (which he categorized a "girl drink"). I mentioned that might be nice to try.
LOL! Yes, a "girl drink" indeed. I thought about titling the post "chick beer" but decided against it.
One of my favorites is a shot of grenadien half a glass of guiness topped of with champagne. Don't know the name but it's a girl drink.
Happy - who is being published in the letter to the editor section of Men's Journal next month discussing the failure of a popular magazine to enjoy texas independent beers.
Sounds interesting, Happy. I'm pretty sure I've got all the ingredients here - perhaps we'll give it a try. I'm not very fond of Guiness (or dark beer in general) but the combination might make it tolerable!
Texas independent beers, huh? So, which one is your favorite?
Happy - Say "Shiner"! Say "Shiner"!!!
