We added two white rats to our family recently. I really don't know what type they'd technically be, but one is beige-ish, the other white with a beige stripe part way down her back. They're both females. One is for my daughter and one for my son.
As of yesterday, the rats have been here with us for a week. We had success getting the rats out of the cage on our first attempt (yesterday). This was thanks mostly to my husband who seemed to naturally know how to get them used to him and convince them to climb on him. It took quite a while to pull it off, but was worth the effort. It's fun to have them crawl all over you.
Today we found a stick from the garden for them to crawl on and got it wedged into their cage. They haven't ventured out to try it yet though.
